Saba Lakhani,
Doctor of Dental Surgery, FAGD
Dr. Saba Lakhani was born and raised in Fairfax, Virginia, and then followed her father’s footsteps to the University of Maryland, College Park (Go Terps!) and graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Neurology and Physiology. After concluding a fellowship in Dental and Craniofacial research at NIH, she continued on to Howard University, College of Dentistry for her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. Dr. Lakhani then completed a General Practice Residency at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Washington, D.C. before going into private practice. She is a member of the American Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry, The Greater Washington Academy of Women Dentists, and the Southern Maryland Dental Society. She still enjoys keeping current by participating in post-graduate and continuing education courses throughout the year and has completed her AGD Fellowship.
Dr. Lakhani has been providing residents of the DC Metropolitan area with outstanding dental care since 2001, and enjoys working here in Bethesda, where she also lives. She believes that dentistry goes beyond merely treating teeth, that it really involves communicating and building relationships with patients.

I’m an FAGD dentist! What does that mean for you and your family?
FAGD stands for Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry. Earning Fellowship takes dedication to dental continuing education (CE) beyond graduation. Only about 6 percent of general dentists in the U.S. and Canada are AGD Fellows. When you see a dentist with FAGD after their name, you can rest assured that they care about knowing the latest techniques and best practices in dentistry. AGD Fellows practice these techniques in a classroom setting multiple times a year — not every dentist does this.
To become an AGD Fellow, a dentist must:
- Complete over 500 credit hours of CE.
- Earn 350 of those 500 credits in live courses.
- Pass an exam equal in difficulty to board certification exams.
